Part 1 · SiteMCP setup

Create your SiteMCP account

Sign up at sitemcp.net with just an email address - no password. SiteMCP emails a one-time code, you enter it, and you're signed in.

Generate your connector URL

From the dashboard, open MCP Settings and click Generate URL. This is your personal link that lets Claude talk to your SiteMCP account - copy it.

Add SiteMCP as a custom connector in Claude

In Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL you copied, and set it to Always approve so Claude doesn't ask permission on every single action.

Test the connection

Open a new Claude chat and send a quick test prompt. If it's wired up correctly, Claude replies with pong and your account ID.

ping SITEMCP

Add an OpenRouter keyOptional

If you want Claude to be able to generate or restyle images for your site, add a free OpenRouter API key in MCP Settings. You can skip this and add it later - image uploads still work without it.

Part 2 · Building the site

Tell Claude to copy your old site

If you already have a website, the fastest start is asking Claude to replicate it on SiteMCP rather than describing everything from scratch.

I have my old site at [yoursite.com]. Copy it into SiteMCP - let's first just create the front page.

Give Claude screenshots for reference

If your old site blocks automated reading, or the layout matters more than the raw text, attach a screenshot in the chat so Claude can match it precisely.

Claude builds the front page

From here Claude works on its own for a bit - reading the old page, writing the new one, checking its own work. Nothing to do but watch, or step away and come back.

Front page is live

Matches the old page's content and layout, live immediately at the site's SiteMCP address - no separate publish step.

Prompt Claude to build the next page

Once you're happy with the first page, just ask for the next one the same way.

Yes, next let's copy [menu/services] page too.

Second page is ready

Same process as the front page - Claude reads the old content, rebuilds it, and links it into the site's navigation automatically.

Set your contact-form email

By default, contact-form submissions go to your account's login email. If you want them going somewhere else - a shared inbox, the business's own address - just tell Claude.

Add a favicon

A small last touch - ask Claude to generate and set one.

Generate and set a favicon for my site - simple, flat icon, one recognizable shape or letter, no text, works at a tiny size.

Site is complete

All pages live, matching the old site's content, already reachable at its SiteMCP address. Connect your own domain whenever you're ready to make it official.
